About us

VersusPilot is about the everyday technology most people buy every few years and live with every day: the phone in a pocket, the laptop on the desk, the tablet on the sofa, the headphones on the commute, the watch on the wrist, the camera for a trip and the TV in the living room. Each one is sold on a specification sheet that is long, inconsistent from one brand to the next, and rarely explains what a figure changes in use.

We started in 2026 because comparing two of these devices usually means opening two product pages that describe the same things in different words and different units. We wanted every product on the same structured sheet, checked by a person against the manufacturer's own documentation, so two phones or two laptops can be read side by side and the differences that matter stand out.

That is the whole site. Every figure comes from the maker's spec sheet or manual, and where the maker does not publish a figure we leave it empty instead of borrowing a number from somewhere else. Each page explains what the numbers mean for an ordinary buyer and ends with a plain verdict on who the product suits and who should look elsewhere. No brand pays for a position, and a page never claims testing we have not done.

What we cover

We compare cameras, headphones, laptops, smartphones, smartwatches, tablets and TVs, and only those. Staying narrow is deliberate: every product in a category is described by the same structured set of specifications, so any two of them can be lined up side by side and measured on identical criteria.

Where the data comes from

Specifications are taken from manufacturer spec sheets and official documentation, never from press coverage. Retailer listings, Amazon’s included, serve only as a cross-check of model numbers, availability and prices. New products enter the catalogue as unpublished drafts, and nothing goes live until a person has checked the numbers, filled the gaps a spec sheet leaves, and written an editor’s note saying, in plain words, where the product is good and where it quietly compromises. When a figure cannot be sourced, we leave it marked Unknown rather than guess. If you spot something wrong, tell us and we fix it.

The VS Score

At the heart of the site is the VS Score: a single 0–100 number that summarises how a product stacks up against its category. It is built from the same weighted methodology for every product, so scores are comparable across an entire category. You can even retune the weights to match what matters to you and watch the scores update live.

Independent by design

We make money from affiliate links: when you buy through a “View deal” button we may earn a commission, at no extra cost to you. That never changes a score or a ranking. Scores are computed from specifications alone, and commercial relationships have no input. You can read exactly how this works in our editorial guidelines.

Who we are

The site is run by two people, not a content farm. That is a deliberate limit: it is why we publish fewer products than the big aggregators, and why every one of them has been read by a human before it went live.
